Martha Protty

Martha Protty is a senior Pitjantjatjara woman born and raised in the bush. She still lives on her ancestral country in the community of Kaltukatjara or Docker River which lies surrounded by the Petermann Ranges in the south west corner of the Northern Territory. She regularly visits her extended family at Mutitjulu within the Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park.

Throughout her long working life, Martha has been an ‘artist in residence’ at the Cultural Centre, a House Parent for Nyangatjatjara Aboriginal College and a senior consultant in traditional knowledge and land management. She has also been an executive of the NPY Women’s Council. As well as carving and painting, Martha is an artist with Tjanpi Desert Weavers and has been featured in numerous exhibitions.
